Annual Picnic Expected in July

Mark your calendars! Our tradition of picnicking in the warm days of Iowa summer shall continue. The 2012 picnic will be held on Saturday, July 28, at Racoon River Park in West Des Moines. We will be feasting at the Biddle Rotary Shelter from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Our famous barbecue chef Don Van Lengen will be providing the meat, and all you have to do is bring a side. Last year’s Moroccan theme went so well that we decided on an Indian theme for this year’s offerings. If you’re looking for ideas on what to bring, check out Indianfoodreceipes.net or Indianfoodforever.com.
You can also bring something more traditional if that is more your style. You can bet that even though it doesn’t fit with Indian culture, there will probably be tons of Don’s fantastic beef brisket to eat! Sodas will also be provided, and you may bring your own beer as long as it comes in a can.
To get to Racoon River Park, take I-35 to the Grand Ave. East exit and go east. About 2 miles from the interstate will be signs for Racoon River Park. The shelter is located near the playground and the Nature Lodge. So shine up those BMWs and start testing your receipes, we look forward to seeing you there!
