Fall Colors Tour 2012

October is traditionally the Iowa Chapter’s month to tour the country roads of Iowa and the surrounding area and view the beautiful fall colors. This year’s Fall Color tour will take us on a slightly different route through southwest Iowa. northwest Missouri, and northeast Kansas. Our final stop is at Heartland Park Topeka at noon Sunday.
We will start on Saturday, Oct 13 with breakfast at BMW of Des Moines at 9 a.m., and depart from the dealership around 10 a.m. This section of roads will wind around southern Iowa as an optional fun rally, with lunch at Peggy Sue’s in Mount Ayr, was featured in Steve Karlin’s Crusin for Comfort Food on Des Moines CBS affiliate KCCI.
After lunch, we’ll head south through Amish country and into northern Missouri. Our overnight stop will be in St. Joseph, Missouri, one of the main crossings for the Oregon and California Trails. Dinner and door prizes will be at 7 p.m. at Boudreaux’s Louisiana Seafood & Steaks in historic downtown St. Joe.
Sunday morning we’ll set off around 9:30 a.m. – 10 a.m. with a group drive through the historic downtown and on into northeast Kansas. For those that don’t want to take a look at the track or try the parade laps. many of the museums in St. Joe and Leavenworth open around noon or one. Once we arrive in Topeka, we will be joining other Iowa Chapter members who are participating in a driving school at the track. Our group can try parade laps around the track for a small donation to charity. This will be behind a pace cars, at street-legal speeds, with no passing allowed. You will not need a helmet or any special equipment. IT’s a nice easy toe in the water for those that have convertibles and other vehicles that aren’t typically allowed at BMW driving schools.

Participants should reserve a room by Tuesday Sept. 11 to get group rate of $84.99. You can also use this link to make your reservation with the hotel directly.
